KILAUEA — Hikes, book signings and free events abound at Kilauea Point National Wildlife Refuge this week in celebration of National Wildlife Refuge Week.
Saturday is the free day at Kilauea Point, with the $10 per adult fee waived. Keiki activities include temporary tattoos and learn about seabirds from Save Our Shearwaters and the Kauai Endangered Seabird Recovery Group.
Leading up to the free day at the refuge is a week of activities, starting with a walk in the Hanalei National Wildlife Refuge on Tuesday, a kayak along the Hule’ia River and walk through the Hule’ia Refuge on Wednesday, and a hike through the Nihoku Predator-proof seabird nesting area on Friday.
Book signings are planned from Hob Osterlund, Susan Dierker, Chuck Blay and Robert Siemers, Patrick Ching and Kim Rogers.
