LIHUE — A man sentenced to life in prison earlier this month after being found guilty of murder was recently sentenced in an additional case.
Standing before Fifth Circuit Court Judge Kathleen Watanabe, Koma Texeira Jr., 21, received an additional five years for promoting a dangerous drug in the third degree and one year for an additional misdemeanor charge.
Both sentences will run concurrent with the life sentence he already received.
Formerly of Waimea, Texeira was found guilty in March after a two-week jury trial in the 2016 Salt Pond murder of Kekaha resident Jon Togioka and sentenced on three charges, murder in the second degree, use of a firearm in the commission of a separate felony and prohibited possession of a firearm or ammunition.
According to witness testimony and evidence presented at trial, Texeira shot and killed Togioka execution-style in the late-night hours of Oct. 31, 2016, in a deserted area near Burns Field in Hanapepe. He was apprehended on the morning of Nov. 5, 2016. His co-defendant in the case, Clayton Kona, was sentenced earlier this year to five years in prison for his role in assisting Texeira by hiding the gun he used in the murder.
