NUKOLII — By a unanimous vote at the Kauai County Farm Bureau annual meeting, Johnny Gordines repeats as the Kauai County Farm Bureau president.
The meeting was held Sunday at the Aqua Kauai Beach Resort. Gordines has been in agriculture for 34 years. He and his wife Terry are fulltime growers, exporters and designers of tropical flowers and foliage at their Kapahi farm. He also serves as president of the Hawaii Tropical Flowers and Foliage Association-Kauai chapter, vice president and board member of the Hawaii Tropical Flower Council, Hawaii Florists and Shippers Association, and Kauai director for the Hawaii Floriculture and Nursery Association.
Rodney Haraguchi, a fourth generation wetland taro farmer in Hanalei Valley, fills the vice president slot. A partner of Hanalei Taro &Juice Company, he promotes value-added taro products and local food. He is the president of the Kauai Taro Growers Association and the nonprofit Ho‘opulapula Haraguchi Rice Mill.
Laurie Ho, who retired after working for the U.S. Department of Agriculture with the Natural Resources Conservation Service for 32 years, fills dual slots of secretary and treasurer. She is owner of Kalepa Ulu breadfruit farm.
Also elected to the board are Sandi Kato-Klutke, a member since 2008; Jerry Ornellas, a previous KCFB president; Roy Oyama, a member since 1972; Ryan Oyama, relinquishing his KCFB treasurer’s position, Joey Silva and Randy Yokoyama.
