HANAMAULU — The county Department of Public Works Wastewater Management Division will be performing smoke testing on its sewer collection system in Hanamaulu and Waimea next week.
Smoke testing will be performed in the Kohea Loa subdivision in Hanamaulu on Tuesday, July 17, from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m., and on Ala Wai Road between Waimea Road and Menehune Road in Waimea on Wednesday, July 18, from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.
Smoke testing uses a non-toxic smoke, and is helpful in identifying areas where infiltration/inflow (storm water entering the sewer main) is occurring. The tests will consist of about 20 minutes of work at each manhole in the area.
Traffic control, using flaggers, will be implemented in the work areas.
I wouldn’t smoke test my neigbhor’s sewage lines because he makes the most foul smelling methane rich gas known to mankind. The kind which leaves a dis-stink trail even in the outdoors, so you can imagine how much of a build up of this toxic gas is concentrated in his sewer lines! Better call the KFD hazard mat team.
