ANAHOLA — The brown water from rain-filled potholes sloshed quietly in the background as a steady stream of people flowed through the tents set up at Anahola Beach Park for the Eighth annual Anahola Prince Kuhio Day celebration presented by Ka Hale Pono and the Anahola community.
ANAHOLA — The brown water from rain-filled potholes sloshed quietly in the background as a steady stream of people flowed through the tents set up at Anahola Beach Park for the Eighth annual Anahola Prince Kuhio Day celebration presented by Ka Hale Pono and the Anahola community.
Alroy Enos, a retired teacher and football coach with the Kapaa High School team, was honored for having characteristics closest to those exhibited by Prince Kuhio, who was born on March 26, 1871, at a site close to Poipu.
Community groups hosted food booths, and vendors filled one of the tents with a variety of crafts and educational exhibits among the lineup of entertainment, which included ho‘okupu performances from schools, including the Kanuikapono Public Charter School, Punana Leo o Kauai, and Ke Kula ‘O Samuel M. Kamakau, a visiting school from Kaneohe, Oahu, which made the class trip because the school sits on “the prince’s lands.”
