PUHI — Mobile Animal Sterilization Hospital, or MASH Clinics, are coming back to Kauai March 13-18, with opportunities for free sterilizations for cats and dogs.
Located at the Kauai Humane Society, the entity is partnering up with Animal Balance and other animal welfare organizations on the island to offer the MASH Clinics. The dog park will be closed during the event for work space and parking.
“Animal Balance will be doing the surgeries. They have a team of veterinarians and vet techs coming in to provide the service,” said Diann Hartman, president of the KHS Board of Directors. “We are hosting the event at the shelter site which makes it convenient for residents and volunteers.”
Animal Balance’s last partnership with KHS was a six-day MASH Clinic in September, during which more than 600 animals were sterilized.
The March 13-18 MASH Clinic is the first of four potential Animal Balance trips to Kauai during the coming year. The entity wants to focus on the feral cat community, as well as owned animals.
For dogs, the MASH Clinic dates are March 13, 14 and 15. Appointments are required in advance for these surgeries.
For cats, the MASH Clinic dates are March 16, 17 and 18.
“These are on a walk-in basis but cats need to be at the site at 8 a.m.,” Hartman said.
Volunteers are needed on site for a wide variety of jobs, including parking. Donations for the team are welcome as well, Hartman said, including snacks and drinks.
