WELLINGTON, New Zealand (AP) — Min Woo Lee of Australia holed a 60-foot eagle putt on the 18th hole Friday for a 3-under 68 to build a one-shot lead in the Asia-Pacific Amateur.
Lee is the 19-year-old brother of LPGA player Minjee Lee and regarded as the longest hitter among the six Australians at Royal Wellington Golf Club. But it was his putter that carried him to the lead going into the weekend.
Lin Yuxin of China also made eagle on his final hole, the par-5 ninth, for a 67 and had the lead until Lee made his eagle.
Lee was at 7-under 135.
Shae Wools-Cobb, the first-round leader, had a 74 and was two shots behind.
The winner of the Asia-Pacific Amateur earns a spot in the Masters and the British Open next year.
