An evening filled with friends, family and fun took place at the Terrace
Restaurant on Saturday, Jan. 15, when the Nawiliwili Yacht Club (NYC) closed
out 1999 and ushered in 2000 with its annual installment and award
ceremony.
Leading the club into the new century will be Commodore Randall
Hillner, Vice Commodore Tim Perry, Rear Commodore John Bertrand, Fleet Captain
Rick Schunk, Port Captain Allan Chatham and new official, Chaplain Flora
Obayashi.
Trophies were presented to the winners of the 1999 Winter,
Spring, Summer and Fall Buoy races, and to the winners of the Memorial Day and
Labor Day races to Hanalei.
The Marriott Resort and Beach Club sponsored
many of the prizes and other local merchants donated gifts and activities to
the silent auction.
Club members expressed their gratitude to sponsors:
Coca Cola, Hellacious Acres, Holo Holo Charters, Kaua’i Coconut Beach Hotel,
Ohana Helicopters, Outfitters Kauai and Island Style Kauai for their
donations.
In anticipation of next year’s award ceremony, members are
already looking forward to the opportunity to bring home trophies at the end of
2000. The 2000 race season will begin on Saturday, Feb. 12, at 2 p.m.
Saturday’s schedule will continue through October along with races
beginning at 5 p.m. on Wednesdays.
The public is invited to join the race
committee at the Nawiliwili jetty to watch the races and cheer on the
competitors.
