The eighth annual Contractors Association of Kaua’i’s Building and Remodeling
Expo will be held this weekend at the Kaua’i War Memorial Convention Hall. The
show is free and open to the public on Friday from 3-10 p.m. and on Saturday
from, 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.
The Expo has always hosted a variety of speakers in
the consumer seminar tent. This year the Contractors Association of Kaua’i and
First Hawaiian Bank have designated an area within the exhibition halls for
demonstrations and infomercials. The area for this activity will be between
Radio Station KUAI, Familian Northwest and Ameritech Cellular Services.
On
Friday at 3:30 p.m. Chefs Mark and Wendy Oyama will have their staff from
Mark’s Place and Contemporary Flavors do a food demonstration with samples
available for Expo guests.
At 5 p.m. Ron and David, the paint pros from
Puhi Paint will be demonstrating how to go about repainting the exterior of
your home for those who want to undertake a project like this. The paint pros
note that homes in Hawai’i’s tropical climate should be repainted every seven
to eight years.
At 6:30 p.m. Sean Andrade and his staff from Familian
Northwest will be demonstrating how a handy-person can install their own
toilet.
If you have a leaky toilet and would like to learn how to fix it
yourself, the staff from Familian Northwest will also show you how to do
that.
On Saturday morning at 9:30 a.m., Colleen Faye of Wrangler’s
Steakhouse will have Chef Alex demonstrate how to make their popular papaya
vinaigrette salad with taro chips. Chef Alex will also have samples
available.
At 11 a.m. Russell Furusho of Kaua’i Termite Fumigation will
talk termites. He will have a presentation on how you can keep your home from
becoming a termite haven and will answer questions from the
audience.
Wrapping up the program at 12:30 p.m. will be the Kaua’i
Community College Culinary Arts students. They will be demonstrating how to
make crepes with tropical sauce. Chef Nishi and his students will have samples
available.
The annual Building and Remodeling Expo is a community service
project of the non-profit Contractors Association of Kaua’i with cooperation
from First Hawaiian Bank and Radio Station KUAI. The Contractors Association of
Kaua’i is a 43 year-old construction trade association.
