The third
period belonged to Waimea 17-10 only to have Kapa`a ignite 22-13 in the last
quarter.
With 1:58 showing, Maguire’s closer of a foul pair tied the
contest 42-42.
Waimea’s Charise Ponce tried to answer, but the shot fell
short and out of bounds giving Maguire the go-ahead on a second-chance bucket
46-42, Kapa`a.
A Sharlene Carillo pick of Waimea’s drive resulted in a
46-42 reading with 1:10 showing followed by another Maguire free throw at the
49-second mark, 47-42.
Carillo added another foul shot with 24 seconds
showing for the 48-42 Kapa`a bulge, but the Menehunes were not done as Ashlee
Vea popped a trey with 17 seconds left.
The effort fell short as the clock
ran out 48-45, Kapa`a.
Vea topped all scorers with 21 points for Waimea
while Maguire came up with 10 of her game 16 points to lead
Kapa`a.
