KALAHEO, KILAUEA—Pono Perez had a busy Saturday as his dad Kaleo made sure he
was able to participate in the Kaua`i Youth Basketball Association s 12 &
Under games at the Kilauea Neighborhood Center before making a cross-island
trek to the Kalaheo Neighborhood Center for the 10 & Under games.
Pono
s brother Kaleo was high point shooter for the Lihu`e Raptors with 15 points,
but the effort was not enough as the Kapa`a Boys & Girls Club edged past
the Raptors 42-37 to give the league a three-way tie for the top seed
position.
Michael Lindsey had the hot hand for Kapa`a B & G with 17
points with Kamalu Umu tossing in 13 markers.
Branden McDaniels’ 14 points
paced the Westside Hornets (12U) to a 38-20 win over the Lihu`e Wolfpack who
had strong contributions from Seneca Burley and Ryan Nagaoka.
The Puhi
Wildcats fired six three-pointers by four players in the first half to nail
down a 34-22 win over the Kaumakani Supersonics in KYBA boys 14 & Under
basketball played at the Kalaheo Neighborhood Center.
Aren Racca had a
pair, Matthew Palaroan had a pair, with Micheal Ng and Kaupili Akau each
chipping in one trey apiece for Puhi.
Palaroan and Racca ended the game
with high-point honors for Puhi with 13- and 11-point showings.
Jeremy
Manuel had the hot hand for Kaumakani with 9 points.
The Kalaheo Pistons
exploded 14-9 in the third period against the Westside Hornets (14U) behind the
scoring of Kamu Kawaihalau s 5, and Edward Delos Santos 4-point scoring, but
the effort fell short as the Hornets wrapped up a 37-28 showing over Kalaheo
behind Kawika Hepa s 16 points.
Pono Perez and Micah Alayvilla paced the
Lihu`e And 1s to a 17-point third period to pace the And 1s to a 51-11 showing
over the Kaua`i Magic who never faltered until the final buzzer with Devin
Tavana scoring 7 of the team s 11 points.
Elijah Phillips and Devin Saiki
lit the boards for the Boys & Girls Club (Kapa`a) to move the team to a 4-2
showing over the TGI Kalaheo Lakers in the first period.
Halem Medina
accounted for the 6-point second period for Kapa`a, but the Lakers came alive
as Cian Carlo Belen fired four points with Keelan Sakuda and Sam Schur adding a
pair apiece to deadlock the game 10-10 at the half.
Kalaheo continued to
sizzle in the third and fourth periods behind the shooting of Schur , Sakuda,
and Belen to end the contest 25-14.
Medina and Phillips had the range for
the Boys & Girls Club.
