The
main attraction is our posting of news stories and color photos from the daily
issue of The Garden Island. Classified ads are another big attraction, along
with an archive of past stories that offers a look at every major
Kaua’i-related front page story from late November 1999 onward.
Our Web
site counters are also showing a lot of interest in our Kaua’i surfing and tide
reports, our daily interactive weather report from Accuweather that features a
satellite weather map updated throughout the day, our up-to-date community
calendar, and interactive TV listings.
Placing all this information online
for free is a service to our readers, one that enhances the value of our print
publications, and one that gives The Garden Island a global reach. And
KauaiWorld.com allows us to communicate in ways that are impossible to do in
print. One example is offering readers a way to instantly give feedback to our
editor and reporters through e-mail links placed at the end of each story
posted.
We can also offer expanded sections on topics of interest like our
Decision 2000 election series that appears on the front page of The Garden
Island. Look for the distinctive logo at the bottom of the front page of
KauaiWorld.com; a click will take you to a link to an archive of stories from
The Garden Island dealing with this year’s election. This allows a thorough
overview of election campaigns underway on Kaua’i – this hasn’t been available

Another community service is working with the County of
Kaua’i and its consultants to offer online copies of documents like the draft
versions of the new General Plan Update. Through a program named Adobe Acrobat,
we are able to give online, 24-hour-a-day, 7-days-a-week access to a
downloadable and online printable public document. No more waiting for the
mailman, or making a special trip to the library or a county office to read
such critically important documents. In Acrobat, you can even cut and paste
text sections of the document into your own word processor.
Watch for live
election night posting of results for the primary and general election this
fall and other Internet-only special news features in the near future.
