As we near the great shoot-out on Nov. 7, I offer some random personal thoughts
and observations.
And the answer is: “Opportunist, one who adopts the
practice or policy of adapting one’s actions, judgments, etc., to
circumstances, as in politics, in order to further one’s immediate interests,
without regard for basic principles or eventual consequences” (emphasis mine)
(Webster’s New World Dictionary, 3rd Edition).
The question: What is Al
Gore?
Or could it be that he borders on being a pathological liar? For
example, creator of the Internet. Favorite lullaby as a child (“Look For The
Union Label”) – written when Mr. Gore was 27. Etc., etc.
Winding up the
national scene, what do some of the major events of the 20th century have in
common? World War I (1917-18), World War II (1941-45), Korea (1950-53), Vietnam
(1964-1973), Panama Canal “gift” (1977) and Yugoslavia (1998) all involved
Democratic presidents.
A little closer to home, it’s time to focus on the
state of Hawai’i, where the Democrat Party has, with the help of labor, been in
control of our political life for approximately 46 years. Hawai’i is one of a
very few states (if not the only one) where the state controls the education
system instead of local jurisdictions. (Are you happy with our schools?) And
the state-run Convention Center in Honolulu that returns little benefit to
those of us on the neighbor islands. And our “state” police force where the pay
of our local police is determined by collective bargaining at the state level.
And where Hawai’i is one out of four states that does not let the people vote
for an attorney general. And last, but not the least, recent figures showed
that Hawai’i ranked fourth in the nation having the highest per capita tax
burdens.
The above observations (and there are many more) cover a few of
the problems that have been around for some time without any appreciable
solutions. Why, then, should we re-elect those in power that have created the
problems and then expect the same group to come up with appropriate
answers?
I urge your support of the Republican candidates across the board
– federal, state and county. Mahalo for your consideration.
