The Kaua`i County Council want to stem the overnight flow of alcohol in county parks.
A bill tentatively set for a public hearing Feb. 8 or thereabout proposes amending the county code relating to liquor consumption in the parks.
The new measure calls for prohibiting “any person at a county park or recreation facility to possess or consume any intoxicating liquor between the hours of 11 p.m. and 6 a.m.”
The bill also prohibits campers from drinking or possessing intoxicating beverages during the hours stated.
In addition, liquor of any kind would be banned “at any time” within the boundaries of the county-operated Wailua Golf Course, except in areas licensed for consumption by the Liquor Commission.
The bill, which received a preliminary approval from the council Jan. 11, originated after citizen complaints to the police about increased contacts with intoxicated people in the county’s parks overnight.
Per usual, all interested persons wishing to do so may comment on the proposed ordinance at the public hearing.
