Kauai’s Bruce Irons is making a habit of winning at the Banzai Pipeline with his third win, this time at the Gotcha venue.
In three-to-four foot surf, Iron’s outclassed a field including Australian Koby Alberton and Zane Harrison (second and third) and Jason Bogle from Kailua, Hawaii, who finished fourth.
The onslaught started with Irons opening up the heat with a 7.17 ride and continued midway through the thirty-five-minute final with a total score of 24.27.
His lead kept Alberton, the nearest competitor, away by a total combined wave score of 10.86 and far ahead of the other surfers.
The routine win, which started with last year’s event and continued with a win at the X-Box Masters, makes it three-for-three for the Hanalei surfer.
Irons takes his act on the road next month hoping to qualify for the World Championship Tour.
“For now I’m going to celebrate this win with the boys up at the (Volcom) house,” said a stoked Irons as his 1500 points gives him a good start into the year’s WQS point ratings.
For his win, he pocketed $6,000, with Alberton earning $3,000.
Zane Harrison took home $2,500 and Jason Bogle brought $2,100.
