Kukui Grove Center is ready to mark the 20th anniversary of the opening of Kaua’i’s leading shopping center with a special celebration set for Saturday, July 20 from 11 a.m. to 2:30 p.m., center stage and exhibit area.
Kicking off the festivities at 11 am will be Tsunami Taiko, a Westside group comprised of youngsters ages 10 to 18 years old under the tutelage of Kenny Endo, a renowned taiko drummer.Following their performance, a fashion show will be staged by Maika’i Models wearing the latest apparel available at Chicks Who Rip, Dj Vu, Sears and Tropical Heat.
At noon, Na Hula O Kaohikukapulani, an award winning halau led by Kumu Hula Kapu Kinimaka-Alquiza will put on an hour-long show. Commencing at 1 p.m. will be birthday activities including cake cutting, ice cream served with your favorite topping, pinata breaking and a drawing for fabulous prizes.
Then at 1:30 p.m., Dolly and The Buoys will take the stage. Considered one of the hottest bands on Kaua’i, members include vocalist Dolly Kanekane, Brent Eynon, guitarist and vocalist, James Macchi, bass player, and Paul Togioka on guitar and banjo. While the entertainment is going on at center stage, customers can also catch a glimpse of a large display chronicling events at Kukui Grove over the last 20 years as well as future plans for the mall. The display will be set up in the exhibit area next to Dj vu. Also happening in the same area will be a hands-on activity for children coordinated by artist Leonora Orr and mini-interviews conducted by a representative from SMS Research with those interested in sharing what they’d like to see at the mall.
