Kaua’i Medical Clinic’s Obstetrics and Gynecology Department has a full staff of skilled physicians to provide quality care to the women of Kaua’i. Recently joining Kaua’i Medical Clinic’s OB/GYN staff are Charles B. Shutt, MD and Susan J. Littler, MD, Ph.D. “I am very pleased with our obstetrics and gynecology department, and happy that we are able to provide women with excellent physicians and nurse midwives. With the addition of Dr. Shutt and Dr. Littler, we are able to better meet the needs of patients,” said Dr. Lee Evslin, President and CEO of Kaua’i Medical Clinic.
Shutt is a graduate of the University of Kansas School of Medicine and completed his residency there at the Wesley Medical Center in Wichita. From 1986, Shutt was in private practice in Lawrence, Kan., and later, practiced at Meriter Hospital in Madison, Wisconsin for nine years. He was also an associate professor at the University of Wisconsin. Immediately prior to joining the Kaua’i Medical Clinic, he worked as a locum tenens physician. Shutt is board certified by the American Board of OB/GYN, and is a Fellow of the American College of OB/GYN. He has special interests in women’s life issues, and has been with the Kaua’i Medical Clinic since June of this year.
Shutt was born in Kansas City, Mo. In his leisure, he enjoys hiking, biking, kayaking and other outdoor activities, as well as acrylic painting. He has a love for writing and is close to finishing a medical fiction novel. When asked why he chose to practice medicine on the island of Kaua’i, Dr. Shutt said, “I have a passion for people, and I fell in love with the people of Kaua’i. They are very receptive and sincere.” Dr. Shutt has two sons in college and resides in Wailua.
Dr. Susan Littler recently moved to Kaua’i from New York. She is a graduate of State University of New York at Buffalo where she has obtained her BA in Biological Science, her PhD in Pathology, and her MD. She completed her internship in general surgery at Loyola University Medical Center in Maywood, Illinois, and her residency in obstetrics and gynecology at the State University of New York Buffalo Consortium. She is board certified by the American Board of Obstetrics and Gynecology, and is FACOG appointed. In her work, she particularly enjoys helping teenagers, and working with the community to provide teenagers with the education they need to stay healthy.
Previous to joining Kaua’i Medical Clinic’s staff, Littler was the attending physician at Georgetown Memorial Hospital in South Carolina from 1996-1998. She was also the attending physician at Mt. Sinai Hospital in New York from 1998-2001. In 1998-2001, she served as MSSM Clinical Assistant Professor at Mt. Sinai Hospital. Prior to teaching at Mt. Sinai, Dr. Littler also served as a professor in Anatomy and Physiology, and Microbiology at D’Youville College, New York, and assistant professor at Erie Community College, City Campus in New York. She also instructed at her alma mater, SUNY-Buffalo.
Littler was born in Buffalo and was raised in the countryside of New York. She is married to Jeff Abram who is a financial analyst and marathon runner. Littler enjoys her cats and dogs as well as the outdoors, particularly kayaking, sailing, canoeing, mountain biking, and hiking. She loves to garden, growing fruits and vegetables as well as flowers. “I moved to Kaua’i because Kaua’i is beautiful, and the people are so nice,” she said.
