MANA – The Garden Isle Racing Association held NHRA Championship Drag Racing for over 50 competitors before a crowd of 1,450 spectators Saturday night at the Kauai Raceway Park in Mana, the westernmost quarter mile drag strip in the world.

In the Brian Baptiste for Mayor Street ET competition, Matt Pancho placed first running 16.257 on a 16.00 second dial in, beating Brad Chikahiro in his 1993 Honda Accord sponsored by Gude Performance and CCA Motorsports who broke out by .007 on his 15.85 dial-in.
In Friday’s King Auto Center Super Street ET Riley Takayama took first place running 11.698 on a 11.39 dial-in in his ’69 Camaro Z28 sponsored by Fast Times Motorworks and Matsuda Bros & Taba. Jay-R Smith took second place riding his CBR 600 Honda motorcycle to an 11.968 ET at 119.05 MPH.
In the Pro ET bracket sponsored by PSD Napa Jed Kaiakapu took first place in his Chevrolet Nova sponsored by Western Motors Service running 10.117 on a 10.10 dial-in at 120.97 MPH. Karl Nakamura sponsored by Kauai Petroleum finished in second place with a 12.846 ET on a 12.66 dial in.
Saturday’s racing featured a Jr ET bracket sponsored by Mazie Hirono for Governor. Twelve year old Calvin Costa sponsored by D & W Services cut a 0.574 light and ran 77.59 MPH and 8.371 ET on an 8.27 dial-in for First Place. Eleven year old Sheldon Costa sponsored by D & W Services finished second when he red lighted in the final round. Finishing in Third Place was eleven year old Wayne Parraga, Jr. Mazie Hirono, Lt Governor, attended Saturday nights races to present the Jr ET trophies and the Lt. Governor’s Safe Racing Not Street Racing award to the Jr. ET class winner, Calvin Costa.
The fastest dragsters competed in Saturday’s heads-up Top Gun competition. Myles Togioka driving the M & S Marine A/F dragster sponsored by Pennzoil coasted to an easy victory in the final Top Gun round of when second place finisher Tyler Taba red lighted in the Matsuda Bros & Taba dragster sponsored by Pembrook Industries, Hadama Service, and Triple Nickel Race
Cars despite Taba’s 7.243 ET at 186.72 MPH. Togioka set the meet’s quickest ET with a 6.782 ET at 209.30 MPH during qualifying.
