A 25-year-old man who crashed his car in Kilauea Friday night remains in critical but stable condition in the Intensive Care Unit of Queen’s Medical Center on O’ahu.
A police report stated the victim drove off the roadway, struck and knocked over a steel pole and then struck a tree. Police said the driver suffered head, neck and back injuries.
Kaua’i Fire Department personnel from the Hanalei station arrived at the scene at 4:19 a.m. He was seen in the front driver’s seat, laying to the right side with his head partially under the dashboard.
According to KFD reports, the victim was somewhat responsive, and personnel did not note any broken bones, but he did suffer numerous lacerations to the head and face.
He was not complaining of pain but could not move his arms and legs. It took 40 minutes to remove the victim from the vehicle. His neck was stabilized and he was strapped onto a board to protect his back.
He was then transported to the emergency room at Wilcox by American Medical Response. At 8:20 a.m. He was turned over to Hawaii Air Ambulance, who transported him via airplane to Queen’s.
