That’s what’s to expect from a Spooky Stableford Golf Tournament, right? Only the brave can take to the tees on a day like this – you wouldn’t want to know what happens after a double bogey.
The Spooky Stableford Golf Tournament, held by the Kaua’i Junior Golfer’s Association, took place Saturday and featured some of the top junior golfers on the island.
The Spooky Tourney follows a stableford system, which gives points for specific scores. For the 10s division, golfers get 8 points for eagle, 5 points for birdie, 3 points for par, 1 point for bogey, 0 for double bogey and -2 for anything higher. In the 12s and over divisions, golfers are awarded 5 points for eagle, 3 points for birdie, 1 point for par, 0 for bogey, -1 for double bogey and -3 for anything higher.
Kelli Oride won the 10s “A” Flight division with the score of 9 points. Rae-Lyn Morikawa followed with 3 points, Noa Matsuyoshi was third with -1 and Malia Saiki was fourth with -12.
In 10s “B” Flight, Kyle Furusho took first with 2 points, Kyle Groves was second with -6 and Xavier Guirao was third with -8.
Nathan Wong won the 10s C Division with 6 points. Warren Laakea followed in the division with 0 and Kelan Adachi (-5) and Jon Furusho (-7) were third and fourth.
Grant Paiste led the way for the 12s “A Flight” division, scoring 5 points. Byron Rualizo ended with 0, Cory Oride and Wiley Yosohioka each had -2, and Jonathan Ganir (-5), Micah Yoshioka (-7) and Taylor Bell (-10) followed.
Mark Guirao topped the 12s “B Flight” division with 2 points. Troy Jacintho was second with -6, Kyle Wong was third with -9 and Kaimana Jordan took fourth with -11. Hoku Costa (-13), Royce Ramos (-14), Sean Cellejo (-16) and Ryan Wong (-19) followed.
T.J. Kua won the 14s “A Flight with 3 points. Scott Lopez followed with -1, Markland Soliva had -6, Tyruss Lum -7 and Lambert Guirao rounded the division with -12.
Keoki Saiki of th 16s division finished with -1.
