LIHUE – Kelly Devitt scored 2 goals in the second half to ensure the Kapa’a Warriors a 4-1 win over the Waimea Menehune Saturday at Vidinha Stadium in Lihu’e.
The Warriors’ (1-0) offense dominated the first half, amassing 10 shots on goal to the Menehune’s 2.
Danielle Hill put in the first goal on a cross pass at the onset of the first period to put Kapa’a in the lead. Moments later, Roxanne Belmonte out ran the Menhune defenders for a clean shot on goal to put the Warriors ahead 2-0.
Jenny Morita answered with the Menehune’s only goal, a one-timer off a cross-pass by Laurese Rosare to finish the half at 2-1.
The Menehune defense picked up the pace in the last 40 minutes, holding the Warriors to three shots on goal. Waimea’s offense had three runs on goal including two breakaways from Rosare in the period, but were unable to find the net.
In the end, Devitt made sure the Menehune wouldn’t come any closer.
Devitt highlighted the second half with 2 goals from the top of the box to seal the Warriors’ first season win.
In a combined effort, Mallorie Hepa and Faa Taala made 10 saves in goal for the Menehune. Tania Tasic made 5 for the Warriors.
The loss drops the Menehune to 0-2.
Waimea boys pull
out thrilling 3-2 victory
Kelsey Morikawa scored 2 goals to lead the Waimea Menehune to a thrilling 3-2 victory over the Kapa’a Warriors Saturday at Vidinda Stadium.
The win evens Waimea’s record at 1-1. They fell 2-1 to the Kaua’i Red Raiders in the season opener last weekend.
The Menehune led at the half mark after Morikawa hit the far corner for a 1-0 lead.
The Warriors answered minutes later with a goal from Gabe Sarsona to tie it up at the half.
A misdirected Menehune cross pass in front of their own goal found Billy Toy’s foot in the second period, and it resulted in another Kapa’a goal – Toy’s strike gave the Warriors a 2-1 advantage.
The Menehune would fight back and eventually cap their first win of the season.
Desmond Rodrigues found the net on a penalty shot to tie the game at 2-2, and then Morikawa scored his second goal after dashing past the Warrior defense for a 3-2 lead.

LIHUE – The Waimea Jayee boys are 2-0 after Saturday night’s 1-0 win against the Kapa’a Warriors.
Jeffrey Kakuda scored the only goal of the game, mid second half, to lead the Menehune to victory.
The Kapa’a Jayvee girls are 1-0 this season after their 1-0 win over the Waimea Menehune. Kapa’a’s Rancee Wilson scored on a corner kick in the first half for the only goal of the game. The Warriors found the net once more in the half but a handball called back the point.
The Menehune also had a goal called back because of an offside violation in the second half.
The Menehune Jayvee girls are 0-2 this season.
