A hunter shot in the left shoulder Sunday evening in a Wailua Homesteads hunting area remains in guarded condition at a Honolulu hospital.
The shooting was accidental, according to an initial police investigation report.
The 42-year-old pig hunter was hit by a 12-gauge, double-barrel shotgun shot accidentally fired by his hunting partner while crossing through thick brush.
The hunters were hunting about 1 1/2 miles up the Powerline Trail near a location known as Blue Hole.
Personnel from the Kapa’a Fire Station and Kapa’a unit of American Medical Response were on that scene by about 5:30 p.m. and initiated treatment, with acting Captain Kevin Souza in charge.
The wounded man was treated for shock with oxygen and a covering of blankets, and was rushed to the emergency room of Wilcox Memorial Hospital. He was admitted to Queen’s at about midnight Sunday night.
