Representatives of the Republican Party of Kauai have scheduled district caucus meetings across the island, with deadlines prior to those meetings for anyone interested in voting at or being a delegate to the 2003 state party convention in May.
Anyone who would like to vote at, stand as a district or precinct officer, or be elected a delegate to the 2003 state Republican Party convention in May, must have a signed party card turned into Hawaii Republican Party headquarters in Honolulu 10 days prior to the date of the person’s district caucus, said Alfred Sarmento, communications director for the Republican Party of Kauai.
He recommends those interested in serving in these capacities call district chairpersons, or e-mail him, kauaigop@hotmail.com, for party cards. The purpose of the district caucuses is to elect district and precinct officers and delegates to the party’s state convention.
The first caucus is set for Wednesday, Jan. 29, from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m., at the Lihue Neighborhood Center, for those in state House district 15. The district covers parts of Wailua, all of Lihu’e, and parts of Lawa’i and Koloa.
For more information, please call Ed at 822-9871, or e-mail kauaigop@hotmail.com.
The party’s district caucus for the 16th House district is set for Thursday, Jan. 30, from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. at the Kalaheo Neighborhood Center. The 16th district includes parts of Lawa’i and Koloa, Po’ipu through Waimea, and Ni’ihau.
For more information, please call Sarmento, 635-6271, or e-mail kauaigop@hotmail.com.
The party will hold three simultaneous caucuses for the 14th state House district, encompassing Wailua to Ha’ena, all on Tuesday, Feb. 4, all from 6 p.m. to 7 p.m., but at three separate locations.
Precincts 1 and 2 will meet at the Church of the Pacific in Princeville. Precinct 3 will meet at the Anahola Homestead Council meeting room, 4444 Hokuele Rd., and precincts 4, 5 and 6 will meet at the Kapaa Library meeting room.
For more information, please call Bill at 826-7721, or e-mail kauaigop@hotmail.com.
“This year we will be focusing our efforts on building viable, useful, grass-roots-based district and precinct organizations so we may effectively challenge our entrenched Kaua’i Democrat legislators in 2004,” Sarmento said.
On an island-wide and statewide level, card-carrying Republicans are being encouraged to bring at least one non-member each to the caucuses.
The state convention is set for the Hilton Waikoloa Village on the Kona side of the Big Island.
