Kaina Allard-Mahoney uses the special 3D glasses to view other pieces of artwork at the Kapa’a High School Achievement Night that was held Wednesday evening at the Kapa’a High School gym.
The school’s photography class students created special computer-generated 3D projects and had the special glasses for patrons to use to view the projects in addition to conventional photographs, many of whom earned awards during the course of the school year.
The Achievement Night program was a collaborative effort between the school and the school’s PTSA. It was open to the public so members of the community could get a better understanding of the achievements by Kapa`a High School students.
Parents of prospective students could also get a feeling for the campus as students were on hand mingling through the displays and sharing experiences with the parents as the school year nears its end.
Other offerings included displays from the of classes that students participated in during the school year. They included the top Kaua`i Complex Science Fair winners. Kapa`a High School students took four of the five top awards at that event held earlier this year at the convention hall.
The Jr. R.O.T.C. program included actual materials used by the students in their year’s course, and highlighted the versatility of the program with a special rifle drill exercise.
PTSA volunteers were also there to unveil the new school wear line that will be taking effect at the start of the next school year. Students and parents were able to place their orders for the apparel in anticipation of next year.
The KIUC-sponsored electric car was also on hand, but attention was drawn away to the sound competition that took place outside the Bernice Hundley by members of Rodney Yadao’s automotive shop program. The audio competition literally shook the ground as hundreds of watts of audio projection was unleashed to see who was the tops in that competition.
Powerpoint presentations created by students in the Business Computer classes anchored one corner of the gym as patrons were able to browse through the accomplishments of the students including resumes, brochures, and other projects that will become essential skills when the students enter the world of work.
Hayley Fernandes, whose project was being projected on a big screen, commented that successful completion of the program enabled students to be able to include those skills such as Microsoft Word, Excel, and Powerpoint proficiency on their resumes.
The Interact Club, active in numerous community events such as the United Way Walkathon and the upcoming Visitor Industry Charity Walk, offered snacks and cold drinks, while a meat lasagna plate was being offered at a neighboring booth. K
