Judging from the forest of bamboo poles dangling from piers and bridges around the island, this year’s ‘aweoweo run is still going strong.
Motorists passing the bridge near the Kapaa Library have been surprised by the number of anglers jammed on the old cement structure on certain days.
Ahukini Pier has been jammed to capacity as have other spots around the island.
‘Aweoweo is a fun fish to catch when it’s biting “crazy.” Longtimers say you don’t even have to have bait on your hook. Just drop it into the water as the school zooms past and you’ll catch one.
But alas, even the ‘aweoweo eventually becomes too much of a good thing. Reports from around the island say people are already turning down offers of surplus catches, having had their fill.
