Millicent Agena, an executive housekeeper with Aston Hotels and Resorts Hawaii and a member of the International Executive Housekeepers Association (I.E.H.A) has been selected to serve as the Hawaii chairperson over International Housekeepers Week scheduled for September 14-20.
“It is more of a privilege than an honor,” Agena said.
“It is our way to give back to the employees. We want to thank them for all of their hard work.”
Agena is coordinating activities here on Kaua‘i for Aston Hotels and Resort housekeeping and maintenance employees statewide.
On Sept. 15, there will be a kickoff breakfast. At around that time, each employee will receive a t-shirt with a Hawaiian flag and Aston Hotel logo on the back of it. Across the bottom of the t-shirt will be the caption, “United Across Hawaii.”
On Sept. 4, Mayor Bryan Baptiste will sign a proclamation certifying International Housekeeping Week here on Kaua‘i for 2003.
This year was the first in history in which each island mayor signed the proclamation certifying Sept. 14-20 as I.H.W.
“All housekeepers look forward to September,” said Agena. “It is a forgotten profession. All of us appreciate the recognition.”
Since 1987, Agena has been an executive housekeeper with Aston Hawaii as well as an I.E.H.A. member.
As the Hawaii chairperson for the International Housekeepers Week, Agena is coordinating a picnic to be held on Sept. 20 in Ala Moana Beach Park to celebrate and recognize O‘ahu housekeepers.
All O‘ahu housekeepers with managers who are I.E.H.A. members are invited to attend.
“We are proud that Millicent Agena was chosen from the local I.E.H.A. members to serve as chairperson of this worthwhile event,” said Gary Ettinger, executive vice president for Aston Hotels and Resorts Hawaii.
“Our housekeepers are the unsung, unrecognized heroes in the visitor industry and Aston Hawaii is pleased and eager to honor them,” said Ettinger.
