The Kapa‘a Warriors emerged victorious over the Island School tennis teams Saturday at the Kiahuna Tennis Courts after Kapa‘a took the boys matches 5-0 and were victorious in the girls matches, 4-1.
Kia Tom defeated Sam Alfiler, 6-2, 6-3 for the Boys first singles and Justin Nagai took Kevin Dhorne, 6-1, 6-1 for the second singles.
In Doubles matches, Waylen Sadang teamed with T. Alfiler to take a 6-1, 6-1 win for Kapa‘a in the boys first doubles. B.Toda and W. Haraguchi shut down Andrew Rowan and Eric Talvi, 6-0, 6-0 to earn the second doubles and M. Antonio and B. Sokei downed Sam Dunham and Gaby Sakai 8-3 in a pro set.
Island School took the consolation game 8-1 as Kelsey Miyoshii got past Chris Ramelb.
In the girls matches, Jenny Gueber bettered Crystine Ito, 6-0, 6-4 for Island School’s only victory, Gueber earning the win in Girls first singles.
Tasha Haraguchii defeated Tiana Kamen, 6-1, 6-2 for the girls second singles.
In doubles matches, Kapa‘a took the first and second doubles by default, and C. Esaki and E. O’Shaughnessey defeating Island School’s Sky Smith and Eimy Escano, 6-0, 6-0 for the third doubles.
Island School again took the consolation matchup as the team of July Blachowiak and Tiffany Lum bettered Mohala Johnson and Christine Lane, 8-3.
Over at the Ala Lani Tennis Club and Spa courts at the Kaua‘i Lagoons, the Menehune girls 4-1 victory over the Kaua‘i High School girls, this being the first time the two teams met after their first scheduled meeting in Hanapepe was rained out.
Lezlie Tao was the sole Red Raider victor with a 6-2, 6-4 win over Sonya Tacub to earn the first singles.
Waimea’s Mitzi Seto got past Tatiana Zina 6-7, 6-4 for the second singles with the team of Jenny Morita and Reiko Ayabe defeating Ligaya Malones and Megan Vento 6-4, 6-3 for the first doubles.
Ciera Sherman and Kristine Sison kept the Menehune streak going by downing Jaime Wakumoto and Jacey Ageno 6-1, 6-3 for the second doubles and Jenny Rumbaoa and Sharla Shimono rounded out the Waimea wins by getting past Kellie Torigoe and Alyssa Miyake 6-3, 7-6.
In Consolation play, Kaua‘i again dropped 2-1 as elise Miyamoto and Chelsea Yamase picked up the sole Kaua‘i win 8-3 over Kelsi Nannu and Ashley Shimono.
Tori Kagawa and Sara Nonaka teamed to take Alyssa Miyake and Katie Anderson 8-1 with Taira Kajiwara and Erna Agmata downing Ali Petro and Stacey Terry 8.3.
This Saturday, Kaua‘i will host Kula at the Ala Lani Tennis Club and Spa courts at Kaua‘i Lagoons starting at 9 a.m.
Kapa‘a will be making the trip to the Hanapepe Tennis Courts where they will face host Waimea, those matches also starting at 9 a.m.
