LIHU‘E — Sixteen swimmers from the Mokihana Aquatics swimming program will be heading to Maui to compete in the 30th Annual Sakamoto Invitational swim meet that will be held at the Coach Soichi Sakamoto Pool on Maui during the May 28-30 weekend.
Coach Orlando Anaya announced that nine girls and seven boys will be making the trip based on their recent swim meet held at the Kaua‘i High School pool where swimmers had an opportunity to compete for qualifying times in various events in preparation for the Maui swim meet.
Anaya said this is one of the more prestigious and competitive meets in the state, and the swimmers that will be going to the event have a tough weekend ahead of them as they will have to let him know if they’re planning to attend the state meet which follows on the heels of the Sakamoto meet.
Anchoring the girls will be Katelyn Umetsu, 16, who will be competing in ten events along with Keyah-Leilani Agoot, 12.
Kesia Anaya, Sarah Faraola, and Kelsey O’Conner, all three 11-year-old swimmers will be swimming in nine events each. Kaitlyn Jarry, 10, will also be competing in nine events.
Meaghan Sims, 14, will be in seven events with Kelly Culliney, 10, competing in four events, and Amanda Tanner, 13, swimming in three events.
Keenan Anaya, 15, Randy Umetsu, 14, and Matthew Holzman, 10 will headline the boys with each swimmer competing in ten events each.
