KAPA‘A — “If I knew earlier, I would’ve brought my soccer team,” a local coach commented as she listened to coach Rich Miano outline the program at the speed and quickness clinic held Wednesday at the Kapa‘a High School gym.
The coach’s wish will come true as based on the success of the Wednesday event, Roy Nishida of the mayor’s office said that plans are being formulated to bring back the staff from the Hawai‘i Speed and Quickness athletic skills training clinic.
Those plans call for a return of coaches Miano and Mel DeLaura on July 21, and based on the turnout from last Wednesday’s clinic, Nishida said they are contemplating a pre-registration system, and possibly expanding the program to two days so more of Kaua‘i’s aspiring athletes will have a chance to benefit from the expertise of professional and college-level coaches and players.
