A group of Kapa‘a children who attend The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (second ward) were able to share a gift of aloha with children in Nigeria who attend the Shagamu Branch of the church.
The lei were given to Elder Herman Paleka and Sister Joan Paleka of Anahola, who are serving an 18-month mission for the church. The couple left for Nigeria in February.
“The leis were greatly appreciated by the children, who were willing to share their candies with everyone else at church on Sunday,” the Palekas wrote.
Both are retired teachers from Kapa‘a Elementary School who were sent to the African country to help train church leaders and share the Gospel of Jesus Christ.
The Palekas want all to know that they are doing well and enjoying their service in this faraway country.
They plan to send news to The Garden Island periodically before returning in August 2005.
