Myles S. Shibata, chief operating officer of Kawailoa Development, has been named to the Board of Trustees of the University of Hawai‘i Foundation.
Kawailoa Development owns the land under the Hyatt Regency Kauai Resort & Spa and Poipu Bay Golf Course. The foundation is an independent, nonprofit organization whose purpose is to raise private funds according to priorities determined by the academic leadership of the University of Hawai‘i. Founded in 1955, the foundation provides a full range of fund-raising and alumni-relations services for all 10 UH campuses, including Kaua‘i Community College in Puhi. Shibata joins Dennis M. Esaki, president of Esaki Surveying & Mapping, Inc., as the only Kaua‘i members on the UH Foundation board.
Donna Vuchinich was recently appointed foundation president, at the same time Shibata’s appointment was announced. Vuchinich was most recently acting president, and has over 20 years of experience in public-university fund-raising. “Donna’s length and breadth of experience in public higher education will serve the university system well as we prepare to launch the Centennial Campaign, the most ambitious fund-raising campaign in the history of the University of Hawai‘i,” said Howard Karr, foundation board chairman. Vuchinich has been involved with major capital campaigns at the University of New Mexico and Oregon State University.
