The Kauai Historical Society is releasing an original video production titled “King Kaumuali‘i – A Treasured Ruler of Kaua‘i.” The video tells of the life of King Kaumuali‘i, Kaua‘i’s last king who died in 1824, in a narrated 30- minute musical production that features the young men of the Waimea Hawaiian Club. The men depict Kauamuali‘i in various stages of his life and act as his faithful warriors.
The Ladies of Halau Ka Waikane Lani Malie danced, sang and chanted while their kumu, Blaine Kamalani Kia, provided the narration.
Kia wrote, produced and directed the film.
The video team of Robert Zelkovski,owner of Bamboo Production, filmed and edited to produce the documentary.
The main location for the film is Kamokila Hawaiian Village, located along the north bank of the Wailua river. The film was made possible through a grant from the S.W. Wilcox Trust.
