I am thankful for…
I am thankful my two-year-old stopped crying before reaching home Monday night.
I am thankful there were no oncoming cars when a dark color late model Toyota truck clipped the front passenger side of my van just as we entered the lane divider at Half-Way Bridge. I am thankful my four-year-old in back stopped asking “What was that bump that hit us dad?” while I flashed my high beams and punched my horn as the truck sped up around the bend. I am thankful for the delivery truck that slowed both our vehicles down as we passed the Tunnel of Trees. I am thankful that the driver of that delivery truck didn’t get clipped as the pickup truck crossed double yellow lines to get away from us trying to get it’s license plate number which was blocked by a metal beam bumper. I am thankful there weren’t any cars coming out from Kahili Mountain Park when the truck re-entered the westbound lane dodging oncoming cars. I am thankful for the cluster of cars in Omao that slowed down the same pickup truck, with the red dirt bike strapped in it’s bed, so my wife could call KPD dispatch on her cell phone. I am thankful for the officers on duty that night who came within minutes of our call to help identify the truck which was driving aimlessly around Lawai Valley Estates having caught the red stop light at the bottom of the hill.
I am thankful everyone made it home safely thanks to the police who didn’t inform us of any traffic fatalities on the road from Kekaha to Koloa that night. I am thankful the Holidays are here but as always a word of caution, Drive Safe and S.E.E. with your Heart!

The headline said, “County sues county.” Wrong! It should read, “county sues voters” – and uses their own money to boot.
What come next? If they can go to court to invalidate one issue on the ballot (the charter amendment), why not sue to invalidate other choices on the same ballot. Thus they can then throw out the election for county council and replace the one new face with the one member who lost. After all, what right have the voters to kick out one of the chosen.
Once our 8 county officials (council and mayor) have acquired the power to go to court and overturn voter choices, there is not much sense in holding expensive elections and the subsequent lawsuits to overturn them. By declaring themselves ‘Warlords for Life’ they can cancel all future elections and split the money amongst themselves.
Of course, if we citizens appeal to the State or Federal governments for help, our leaders will just have to secede and set up the People’s Republic of Kauai (PRC). All former county and state employees will be armed and formed into militias to man all airports and harbors to prevent any residents from leaving until they no longer have any money left to pay the ever increasing property taxes. Once each of us becomes destitute, not only will we be able to leave, but we will be forced to do so if we cannot put in 60 hours of labor per week for the government in lieu of paying taxes.
No doubt, greed will doubtless destroy the unanimity now evident in our 8 self-selected rulers – followed by lots of bloodshed until only one remains as Emperor of Kauai. Of the current 8, I wonder which one it will be.
