Princeville teenager Bethany Hamilton is signing books at Borders Books & Music today, home after a cross-country book signing tour on the Mainland.
The tour rambled from Malibu to Manhattan, from the landmark Ron Jon Surf Shop in Cocoa Beach, Florida to Dallas, said her father Tom Hamilton.
New York publishers Simon & Schuster in October released Bethany Hamilton’s first-person story of how she lost an arm to a shark surfing off Ha‘ena on Halloween Day 2003.
The book is selling well nationwide and is near to the Los Angeles Times’ top ten list of bestsellers this week. The book is titled “Soul Surfer – A True Story of Faith, Family, and Fighting to Get Back on the Board.” It was co-authored by Rick Bundschuh, pastor at Kauai Christian Fellowship in Po‘ipu. The 14-year-old surfer girl will be signing books beginning at 2 p.m. The Kaua‘i appearance is one of a handful of public events on island she has been at since her attack.
The teenager is also appearing in an anti-drug public service TV commercial set to begin airing next week. She agreed to help out Gov. Linda Lingle and Lt. Gov. Duke Aiona in making the commercial in which she warns of the dangers of drinking alcohol and drug abuse.
She is also being featured on the “Fearless” show that airs on the Outdoor Life Network on cable TV. The show is scheduled to air today at 4:30 p.m., on December 1 at 9 a.m. and on December 26 3 p.m.
