WAIMEA – Rain squalls, overcast skies, and thunderstorms from Sunday night caused the cancellation of the KIF softball game between the Kapa‘a High School Warriors and the Waimea High School Menehune, Monday.
That game was originally scheduled to be played starting at 3 p.m. at the Waimea Canyon Park, but inclement weather conditions created unplayable conditions with KIF officials cancelling the matchup shortly after 1 p.m.
With Kaua‘i taking the first round title, the playoff game will not be necessary, and the next regularly-scheduled encounter will have the Red Raiders traveling to the New Kapa‘a Ball Park on Wednesday, Jan. 5 to kick off Round Two starting at 5:30 p.m.
No makeup date was available at press time. Based on the Red Raiders clinching the first round, the rained out game has no bearing on the standings, but no confirmation could be obtained on whether the game would be played or not.
Two KIF soccer games are on tap for the remainder of 2004 as Waimea will be hosting Kapa‘a at Hanapepe Stadium this Wednesday and Thursday.
Wednesday’s schedule will feature the JV squads in action starting at 4 p.m.
Thursday’s schedule also starts at 4 p.m. and will feature the varsity squads in action.
Kaua‘i High varsity will play Kapa‘a on Thursday, Jan. 6 to kick off the 2005 calendar.
The Menehune varsity boys control the lead in KIF after edging out Kaua‘i, 3-1 last week, and the Menehune varsity girls are seeking their first win of the season.
