A hot and sunny day, with light breezes made the start of the KIF canoe paddling season as smooth as the Wailua River on Saturday. Kaua‘i High School treaded ahead of the rest of the field with 21 points overall.
A hot and sunny day, with light breezes made the start of the KIF canoe paddling season as smooth as the Wailua River on Saturday. Kaua‘i High School treaded ahead of the rest of the field with 21 points overall. Waimea put up 14 points, followed by Kapa‘a (11), Kula (9), and Island (9).
In the varsity boys finals race, Kula rose to the top with a time of 3:44.37, just getting by Waimea (3:44.68). Kapa‘a finished third at 3:50.64.
Kaua‘i smoked the field in the girls varsity competition with a 4:15.44.
Waimea crossed the finish line in the second spot at 4:22.19, and Island School took third with a 4:32.23. Waimea outpaced Kapa‘a in the varsity mixed contest finals race.
The Menehune crossed the finish line with a 3:19.52 and the Warriors grabbed a 4:05.22 time.
Kaua‘i swept the JV girls races both in the “A” and “B” categories.
The Red Raiders edged Kapa‘a, and Island finished in third-place.
Kaua‘i was the only finisher in the “B” race.
The Red Raiders also took home the titles in the JV mixed race with a time of 2:00.77.
Kula finished in second (2:08.37), and Kapa‘a grabbed the thrid spot at 2:09.73.
KIF canoe paddling continues this Saturday, Jan. 29 at the Wailua River, starting at 9 a.m.
