David L. Gonzalez
David L. Gonzalez, 65, born on January 7, 1939, entered into rest on January 3, 2005.
He was the loving husband of Vicki Gonzalez for 25 years. Father to Terri Castro-Chavez (Carlos) of Stockton, Calif., and step-father to Vanessa Castro-Drivon (David) of Stockton, Calif. and Toni Castro (Reba Gonzalez) of Renton, Wash.; and hanai keiki Jude Huber of Moloa‘a and Damon Hauk of Maine and Kaua‘i, loving grandfather to numerous grandchildren; brother of Molly Jones (Stan) of Penn Valley, Calif. and Bacilio Gonzalez of Stockton, Calif.
A native of Stockton, Calif., David and Vicki relocated to Kaua‘i, in 1984 where they resided for 17 years. While on Kaua‘i, David was an employee associate for the jewelry store, the Black Pearl at Coconut Marketplace, and retired after 12 years of dedicated service as a Certified Substance Abuse Counselor at Serenity House, Po‘ailani and the Hina-Mauka Treatment Center, helping many addicts find freedom from active drug addiction.
David received an honorable discharge from the National Guard and was an active member and sponsor in Narcotics Anonymous (he would have celebrated 20 years clean on April 3, 2005). He loved spending time with his wife, grandchildren, and his loving pets “Damon” and “Sabie”, watching sports and old movies, eating great foods, and his favorite pastime, boogie boarding.
David’s remains (transported by his adopted son, Damon) will return to Kaua‘i where he found healing, serenity, life-long friendships and his “Aloha Spirit.” A memorial gathering to scatter his ashes followed by a Celebration of Life service will be held at Wailua Beach (by the bridge), 12 noon, Sunday, Jan. 16. Please bring flowers to scatter and a surfboard or boogie board.
