When the basketball tips off at 5:30 p.m., Tuesday, both the Kapa‘a High School Warriors varsity and the Warrior JV hoopsters will be looking to add a “W” to their list of accomplishments as they host the Waimea High School Menehune at the Bernice Hundley Gym.
The Menehune JV are coming off a huge win over the Red Raiders Friday night and are hoping to add another victory to their string.
Capitalizing on missed Red Raider free throws and a critical late-game turnover, the Menehune fought back from a double-digit halftime deficit to ice the 52-47 win as Keelan Sakuda closed the books on a charity shot with just eight ticks left on the clock.
Roldan Villanueva pulled the Menehune into the lead with 2:22 left in the game, dropping the front end of a charity pair for the 46-45 go-ahead that stood until the buzzer.
On the varsity side of the court, the Kaua‘i Red Raiders control the first week of play with a 2-0 record following a 66-48 win over Kapa‘a, Tuesday night, and following that with a 55-41 edge over Waimea Friday night.
Both varsity squads from Kapa‘a and Waimea will be hoping to emulate what the Menehune JV squad did Friday night – pull out a win.
Tip off is scheduled for 5:30 p.m. for the JV contest with the varsity game starting 20 minutes following the completion of the JV matchup.
