Katherine Layosa
Katherine Boiser Layosa of Kapaia, died at Garden Isle Healthcare on Jan. 31, 2005, at the age of 85.
Born June 3, 1919, in Kapaia, she was a packer with Hawaiian Canneries and also a hostess at Kaua‘i Surf and at Maui Surf.
She is survived by three sons: Gene “Chico” (Janet) Layosa of Utah, Michael (Patricia) Layosa of Hanama‘ulu, and Patrick (June) Layosa of Kapa‘a; one brother Charles (Doreen) Monroid of Arizona; 12 grandchildren; 17 great grandchildren and one great-great grandchild.
Visitation is scheduled for Saturday, Feb. 12, at Immaculate Conception Church at 9:30 a.m. Services at 11 a.m. Inurnment will be held privately at a later date. The family asks that flowers be omitted.
Arrangements are being handled by Kauai Memorial Gardens & Funeral Home.
Marcelino Padilla
Marcelino Padilla of Hanapepe Cliff Side died at K.V.M.H. on Feb. 1, 2005, at the age of 94.
He was a surveyor with the Olokele Sugar Plantation.
Known to his family and friends as Celin, he is survived by his wife of 55 years, Maggie Padilla; five children: Genero (Margaret) Padilla of Lawai, Angie (Burt) Rapanot of Kekaha, Virginia (Joel) Maimon of Port Ludlow, Wash., James Padilla of Hanapepe Cliff Side and Donna (Thomas) Perry of Kaneohe, O‘ahu; seven grandchildren and four great grandchildren.
Friends may visit with the family from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. on Saturday, Feb. 12, at the Borthwick Kauai Mortuary; service to follow from 11 a.m. to 1 gements are being handled by Borthwick Kauai Mortuary.
William Kailiokalani Medeiros
William Kailiokalani Medeiros of Lihu‘e died at his home on Feb. 3, 2005, at the age of 83.
Born July 19, 1921 on Kaua‘i, he served as a Merchant Marine during WWII and was a Pearl Harbor survivor. He retired as a land surveyor for the state of Hawai‘i.
He is survived by his wife Margaret Andrade Medeiros of Lihu‘e; daughter Debra Kalenani (Leo) Titcomb of Kailua, O‘ahu; two sons: William Daryl Kamanawa Medeiros of ‘Oma‘o and Randal Kailiokalani (Drew) Medeiros of Las Vegas, Nevada; six grandchildren: Richard Thomas Keawe (Kimberley) Aqui, Kaleo Van Titcomb, Travis Keoua Medeiros, Kaleinani Summer Titcomb, Nicholas Kaili Medeiros, and Kylie Kaili Medeiros; two great-grandchildren: Richard Thomas Keawe Aqui, Jr. and Christopher Kainoa Aqui; brother Manuel K. (Kay) Medeiros of O‘ma‘o; sister Florence Loebl of O‘ahu and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Visitation is scheduled for Thursday, Feb. 10, at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Kapaia at 8 a.m. to 9:45 a.m. Services will be held at 10 a.m. by Father Bill. Burial to follow at Kaua‘i Veterans Cemetery.
Casual attire is suggested. Arrangements are being handled by Borthwick Kaua‘i Mortuary.
Seiki Arakaki
Seiki Arakaki of Lihu‘e, died at his home on Jan. 23, 2005, at the age of 90.
Born in Hanama‘ulu, on Aug. 4, 1914, he was a scale man with Kauai Sugar Storage.
Preceded in death by daughter, Jean Masumura, he is survived by wife, Kiyoko; two sons, Dennis (Jean) Arakaki of Los Angeles and Eric Arakaki of Lihu‘e; two daughters, Susan Arakaki of Lihu‘e, Leona (Glen) Urata of Waipahu; son-in-law, Wayne Masumura of Berkeley; four grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; sister, Kay K. Iraha of Honolulu; numerous nieces and nephews.
Private services will be held at a later date.
Arrangements are being handled by Garden Island Mortuary, Ltd.
Kiyoko Gokan
Kiyoko Tsukamoto Gokan of Lihu‘e died at Garden Isle Health-care on Feb. 5, 2005, at the age of 91.
Born in Hanama‘ulu, on July 14, 1913, she was a homemaker.
She is survived by four sons, Charles (Hiroko) of Lihu‘e, Melvyn (Maddy) of Honolulu, Wayne of La-wai and Edward of California; one daughter, Karen of Kapa‘a; seven grandchildren; 7 great-grandchild; one sister, Sueko Kaneshiro; three sisters-in-law, Maizie Shigemoto, Susan Gokan and Amy Gokan; numerous nieces and nephews. Private services will be held at a later date.

Abel A. Silva
Abel A. Silva of Lihu‘e, died Feb. 5, 2005, at Wilcox Memorial Hospital at the age of 85.
Born Dec. 7, 1919, in Wailuku, Maui, he was a taxi driver.
He is survived by two sons: LeRoy M. (Teddi) Silva and Leslie M. Silva; one daughter: Julie (Steven) Victorino; one sister: Caroline (John) Ring; one brother: Thomas (Sophia) Silva; seven grandchildren; 12 great grandchildren; nieces, nephews and cousins.
Friends may call from 9 a.m. to 9:45 a.m. where Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Burial to follow at Immaculate Conception Church Cemetery.

Margaret Manguchei of Kapa‘a, died Feb. 4, 2005, at Garden Isle Health Care Center at the age of 79.
A homemaker, she was born Aug. 21, 1925, in Kealia.
She is survived by her husband: John Manguchei; daughter: Jo Anne Manguchei Castillo; three sons: Neil Manguchei, Kenneth Manguchei, and David Manguchei; two sisters: Mary Santos and Paulina Salsedo; four brothers: Hilario Salsedo, Anthony Salsedo, George Salsedo and Richard Salsedo; nine grand-children; six great grandchildren; nieces, nephews & cousins.
Friends may call from 10 a.m. to 11:15 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 12, at St. Catherine’s Church, where mass will be celebrated at 11:0 a.m. Burial to follow at Kauai Veterans Cemetery in Hanapepe.
