Nestora Manibog
Nestora “Agnes” Manonog Manibog died at Wilcox Memorial Hospital on April 21, 2005, at the age of 63.
Born in Alburquerque Bohol, Philippines on Feb. 26, 1942, she retired as a nurses aid at Mahelona Hospital.
Predeceased by her grand-daughter Kayla Itamura, she is survived by her husband Ignacio “Rudy” Manibog Sr., three sons; Lloyd (Rebecca Smith) Manibog, Arnold (LaRhonda) Manibog, both of Hanama‘ulu, Ignacio “Jon” (Sally) Manibog Jr. of San Francisco; one daughter; Cheryl (Galen) Itamura of Kalaheo, and seven grandchildren.
Visitation with the family will be held on Saturday, May 14, at Immaculate Conception Church in Kapaia, from 9 a.m. Mass to be celebrated at 11 a.m., officiated by Fr. William Shannon. Burial will follow at Kauai Memorial Gardens & Funeral Home in Kapaia.

Hans Ulrich Willi
Hans Ulrich Willi of Princeville died on May 7, 2005, at the age of 75.
A true citizen of the world, Hans was born in Zurich, Switzerland on Aug. 2, 1929, where he “retired” as a Swiss banker, following 25 exciting years running a business in Africa.
In 1997, Hans and his wife, Lynn, moved from Florida to Hawai‘i, where he “re-retired” and found pleasure in hatha yoga, boogie boarding, and weekly movie and pizza dates with his wife.
He is survived by his wife, Lynn Moffitt of Princeville; daughter: Caroline Willi of San Diego, Calif., sons: Carl Willi of Zurich, Switzerland and Henry Willi of Haselmere, England, along with Francesca Willi and Natasha Willi, also of Haselmere, England, and Kimberly (Robert) Wright of Leawood, Kansas, and Jennifer Moffitt Finks of Kansas City, Mo.; brother: Jorg Willi of Zurich, Switzerland, and five grandchildren.
To celebrate Hans’ life, friends and family will meet at the Hanalei Pavilion at 5:30 p.m. on Wednesday, May 11, for a beach walk, immediately followed by a reception for friends at “Spindrift,” 3572 Keoniana, Princeville.

Anacleta Belarmino
Anacleta Dulay Belarmino of Hanama‘ulu died at home on May 6, 2005, at the age of 66.
Born in Malasiqui, Pangasinan, Philippines on July 13, 1938, she was a homemaker as well as a cook with Tip Top Café.
Preceded in death by husband, Apolinario Belarmino, she is survived by two sons, David (Cathy) Belarmino and Tony (Sheila) Belarmino, both of Hanama‘ulu; four daughters, Angie Valmoja of Kapa‘a; Noreen (Mansfield) Oyamot of Hanapepe, Lita (Milton) Amaki of Kekaha, and Nancy (Sterlyn) Shimabukuro of Wailua; 19 grandchildren; 7 great-grand-children; one brother, one sister, numerous nieces, nephews and cousins in the Philippines.
Friends may visit with the family from 9 to 11 a.m. on Friday, May 13, at the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church; Mass officiated by Father Shannon will begin at 11 a.m., followed by burial at the church cemetery. Casual attire is suggested.

Gwendolyn Mahealani Yoshimori of Lihu‘e, died at her home on May 7, 2005.
Born in Nanakuli, O‘ahu, she was preceded in death by her brother, Valentine Lewis.
She is survived by her husband, Clyde T. Yoshimori; son, Isaac (Karen Ching-Silva) Yoshimori of Kaua‘i; two daughters, Esther (James) Miller of Kaua‘i and Naomi (Donald) Lewanski of O‘ahu; one grandson; hanai mother, Maelani (Donald) McComber of the Big Island; two brothers, Jacob (Harriet) Kuni and Samuel (Dodie) Kuni, both of O‘ahu; five sisters, Alice (Leroy) Peneku of California, Jackie Kuni of California, Genevieve (Gilmore) Awong of O‘ahu, Eloise (Shari Hashimoto) Kuni of O‘ahu, and Sandra (Curtis) Oguma of O‘ahu; father-in-law, Hideto Yoshimori of Koloa.

Elden K. Tanaka
Elden K. Tanaka of Lihu‘e died at Wilcox Memorial Hospital on May 7, 2005 at the age of 71.
Born in Koloa, on Feb. 7, 1934, he was a retired Mortgage Banker with North American Mortgage Company.
He is survived by his wife, Shirley M. Tanaka; son, Derek (Rachel) Tanaka of Lihu‘e; two step sons, Peter (Lisa) Ishibashi of Kalaheo and John (Delia) Ishibashi of Lihu‘e; three hanai children, Terry Kuribayashi of Koloa, Chris Nakamura of Wailua and Wendy Nakamura of Honolulu; seven grandchildren; five hanai grandchildren; brother, Wayne (Leatrice) Tanaka; three sisters: Tamiko (Ted) Asahi, Sachiko Takayama and Audrey (Courtenay) Martin.
Friends may visit with the family at 3 p.m. on Saturday, May 14, at the Garden Island Mortuary Chapel; service to begin at 4 p.m. Casual attire is suggested and flowers omitted.

Gary Frommer
World-class drummer and former Kaua‘i resident, Gary Frommer, died May 6, 2005, in Anchorage, Alaska.
Born in Los Angeles, Calif., on Feb. 23, 1935, he grew up in Lake Arrowhead, Calif., where he began playing drums at the age of 13. From 1950 to 1953 he commuted to Los Angeles to study drums and to sit in at rehearsals and jam sessions. Friendship with drummer Shelly Manne and bassist Carson Smith led to work in local clubs, and in 1954, he replaced Manne in trumpeter Shorty Rogers’ group, the Giants.
Later, he recorded or toured with trumpeter Maynard Ferguson, tenor saxophonist Stan Getz, vibist Terry Gibbs, alto saxophonist Art Pepper, flutist Eric Dolphy, tenor saxophonist Brew Moore, guitarist Barney Kesselo and others. He also appeared with Terry Gibb’s quartet on the local television show “Stars of Jazz” (1961).
From 1969 to 1973 he worked for shows in Reno, Nev., after which he was active as a freelance musician in Nevada and California.
A resident of Kaua‘i from 1989 through 1998, Frommer played at venues islandwide, and gathered quite a following of jazz enthusiasts. Frommer was initially inspired by Gene Krupa, but his principal role models were Philly Jo Jones (with whom he studied briefly in the late 1950s), Max Roach and Manne.
He is survived by his daughter Michelle and her family, and his brother and his family.
James A. Bartlett
James A. Bartlett of Indianapolis, Ind., died Sunday, April 17, at Indiana University Medical Center after a brief illness at the age of 48.
Born in Muncie, Ind., on May 13, 1956, he completed several real-estate and banking courses from Ball State University, and University of Hawai‘i.
He is survived by his mother, Patricia A. Taylor, of Muncie; sister, Kaye (Ric) Wise Frataccia of Valparaiso; two nephews; half-brother Gary Bartlett and half-sister Judy Bartlett.
He was preceded in death by his father, Gerald L. Bartlett; and his wife, Toni Bartlett.
Memorial service will be held at Spouting Horn Park, Po‘ipu, on Sunday, May 15, at 4 p.m.

Mitsuo Yamamoto
Mitsuo Yamamoto of Lihu‘e died May 1, 2005, in Honolulu.
Born Oct. 16, 1924, in Koloa, he was a retired building contractor, restaurant owner, and WWII veteran. He loved meeting and talking with people, and enjoyed traveling.
He lived his last few years with his daughter, Audrey (Mike) Abe in Honolulu. He is also survived by sons, Roland (Robin) Yamamoto of Redmond, Wash., and Grant Yamamoto of Kaua‘i; grandchildren Liz Abe, and Riley, Russell and Robert Yamamoto; sisters Satsue Ono and Dorothy (Takashi) Yamada; brother: Masao (Joan) Yamamoto; nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be at 1 p.m. Sunday, May 15, at Lihue Christian Church, followed by service at 1:30 p.m. Inurnment ceremony with veteran honors at 10:30 a.m. Friday, June 3, at the Punchbowl National Memorial Cemetery of the Pacific. The family suggess casual attire and requests that flowers be omitted.
