WAIMEA — The Colorado Classics claimed the 2005 title of the Kaua‘i Fantasy softball Tournament with a 2-1 win over the San Jose Lady Sharks, Saturday afternoon at the Waimea Canyon Park.
Entering the afternoon of the second day of the tournament that opened Thursday morning, both the Colorado Classics and the S.J. Lady Sharks touted undefeated records which led tournament organizers to comment, “They’ll probably play each other for the championship.”
That came to bear after both teams continued to control their destinies, Saturday morning, the Classics shutting down the Central Coast Heat, 7-0, and the Sharks controlling the Outlaw Silver, 6-2 to set the stage for the 18 and Under division title.
Host West Kaua‘i, playing in the 16 and Under division, dropped out of contention, Saturday after drop-ping both their games, 4-2 against Kupa‘a of Maui, and 6-4 against BNGSA, the eventual second place winner in that division.
Ho O Nou claimed that division with a 6-3 win over BNGSA.
“We gotta go Kaua‘i,” the girls from Kupa‘a clamoured after realizing they had no opponent to face, said their coach.
After some deliberation, the Kupa‘a squad decided they would “play up,” in the Under 16 group, most of their players being in the Under 14 age group.
