UH launches auction Web site
The University of Hawai`i Athletics Department, in conjunction with RainBowTique, has launched an auction Web site, which will offer fans the opportunity to purchase authentic football jerseys worn by the players during the 2004 season. Starting bids for the jerseys are $75.
The Web site can be accessed by visiting HawaiiAthletics.com and clicking on the UH auction Web site button or visiting www.uhrainbowtique.com/auction. RainBowTique, the official UH merchandise store, will administer the auction site. Bidders will receive updates on the status of their bids and will be contacted via e-mail if they are the successful bidder.
“This auction site will allow us to provide high-quality, authentic products to the fans,” Herman Frazier, UH athletics director, said.
Alexander signs tender with Seahawks
Shaun Alexander has reduced by one the number of potential big-name training camp hold-outs. The Seattle running back, who fell a yard short of the NFL rushing title last season, signed a one-year deal worth $6.32 million as the team’s franchise player. In return, the Seahawks agreed not to slap the restrictive franchise tag on him next season. “We’re excited to have him in the fold,” club president Tim Ruskell said in a statement on the team’s Web site. “This is great for the team, and we look forward to seeing him practice on Friday.”
Governor Lingle helps out Kapa‘a softball
HONOLULU — Governor Linda Lingle has released $1,786,400 for a new softball field at Kapa‘a High School. The project, which will include restroom facilities and other related improvements, will satisfy gender equity requirements. Construction is expected to be completed by August 2007.
“The improvements of Kapa‘a High School’s softball field are important to promoting athletic opportunities for girls,” said Governor Lingle. “The new softball field will be a source of pride to the Kapa‘a Warriors, enabling them to practice and compete at their school.”
Since the passing of the federal law in 1972 known as Title IX, which mandates gender equity in school athletics, sporting opportunities for Hawai`i girls have grown tremendously in the last 30 years. However, facilities to accommodate girls’ sports have lagged. Girls often have to use community parks for softball games and practices.
