The University of Hawai’i women’s volleyball team fell for the second night in a row to Washington in three games Saturday night, 30-28, 30-20, 30-28.
The record of the Rainbow Wahine, ranked sixth in the CSTV/AVCA Women’s Volleyball Poll, dropped to 5-5, while the No. 2 Huskies improved to 9-0.
Victoria Prince led the Rainbow Wahine with 13 kills. Teammate Tara Hittle followed with nine.
Brie Hagerty had 15 kills for Washington, while Sanja Tomasevic and Christal Morrison each had 13. Alesha Deesing added 12.
For just the sixth time in 220 matches played at the Stan Sheriff Center, the University of Hawai’i women’s volleyball team was defeated in three games Friday night.
The Rainbow Wahine, ranked sixth in the CSTV/AVCA Women’s Volleyball Poll, fell to No. 2 Washington 30-18, 30-24, 30-28.
Victoria Prince led the Rainbow Wahine with nine kills. Team-mate Juliana Sanders followed with eight.
Christal Morrison had 18 kills for Washington, while Sanja Tomasevic had 14 and Brie Hagerty added 13.
Hawai’i looked like a whole different team in game three. The two teams battled their way to 13 ties before a big 5-0 run by the Rainbow Wahine put them up 18-14. Washington responded quickly, taking a 20-19 lead on a 6-1 run. It stayed tight with UW getting to 28-26 on a kill by Brie Hagerty.
But UH answered right back with points on a kill by Tara Hittle and a block by Sanders and Kamana’o.
But after a timeout, UW’s Christal Morrison got a kill before Courtney Thompson dumped to end the match with a 30-28 UW win in game three.
The Wahine fell to 5-5 on the season. Up next on their schedule is Boise State on September 22 at the Stan Sheriff Center, starting at 7 p.m.
On September 23 and 24, UH challenges Loyola Marymount at the Stanley, 7 p.m.
Then they’re off to Lousiana Tech on September 29.
