I just caught a glimpse of the Tokioka family on the channel 4 and 8 news broadcasts this evening. I’m appalled to think that any organization would put up roadblocks to this child’s participation in what is so purely American — the game of baseball.
Now, more than ever, we need to join together to encourage and nurture the children of this community. Shame on those who stand in the way of a child’s success.
Bumper sticker war?
As I completely agree with the premise of the article that excessive speed kills and smile whenever I see a bumper sticker stating, “Slow down, this ain’t the Mainland.”
I’ve been tempted to have my own bumper stickers printed for those “locos” who insist on controlling the speed of all drivers by driving well below the speed limit. How about “Speed up, this ain’t the Philippines.”

Teddy doing a good job
Our family took a leisurely drive this past week from Wailua to the Westside. We stopped for a break at the Waimea Athletic Park. Immediately we noticed the beautifully maintained green grass, the freshly painted buildings (without graffiti), clean, stocked and dry bathrooms, and trash cans emptied. We approached Teddy who was weedeating around the fences to compliment him on the park’s appearance. To Teddy: Keep up the great work! You are a testimony of the love and effort you put into your job.
