Solipsys Corporation officials announced their Sixth Annual Kauai Island Scholarship Contest is under way.
Some $2,000 in cash prizes are available.
From now until Friday, Dec. 16, elementary-, middle- and high-school students on Kaua’i have the opportunity to win cash prizes just for thinking about how technology can help the state of Hawai’i in the future.
This year’s theme, The Future Is Now! is designed to encourage students to focus on environmental concerns and ways of showing their peers the benefits of learning more about technology.
Students from first through 12th grades are eligible to compete. Those in grades one through three may submit posters, while those in grades fourth through sixth may enter 250-word essays.
Students in grades seven through nine submit 350-word essays, and those in grades 10 through 12 should submit 500-word essays.
The winning entry in each category will receive a $500 cash prize.
Eligible students who are interested in participating should register immediately, even if they have yet to think of a topic for their project, a Solipsys spokesperson said.
Registration may be done on-line at www.solipsys.com/kauai, in person at either Solipsys location on Kaua’i, at the West Kauai Technology & Visitors Center on Kaumuali’i Highway in Waimea, or the Lihu’e building at the intersection Kalepa Street and Kaumuali’i Highway in Kukui Grove Village West (entrance off Pahe’e Street), or via U.S. mail.
Additionally, the first 150 students to submit their projects will receive official participation awards.
