Jose Alvarez

Jose Alvarez of Kekaha died at his home on Dec. 14, 2005, at the age of 84.

Born in Kekaha on July 8, 1921, he was a supervisor with Kekaha Sugar Plantation.

Preceded in death by son, Jose Jr., he is survived by his wife, Josephine; children, Gilbert (Margie) Alvarez of Las Vegas, Nev., Patrick (Julie) Alvarez of Kekaha, Jonathan (Rachel) Alvarez of Kekaha, Mary (Larry) Manuel of Kekaha, Cordell (Joel) Blair of Colorado Springs, Colo., Thomas Alvarez of Kekaha, Brendan Alvarez of Kekaha and Vincent Alvarez of Kekaha; daugh-ter-in-law, Marsha Alvarez of Mililani, O’ahu; 13 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; siblings, Sergio (Sally) Alvarez of Lihu’e, Mary Adams of Kekaha and Maria Peros of Honolulu.

Friends may visit with the family from 9 to 10 a.m. on Thursday, Dec. 22, at St. Theresa Catholic Church in Kekaha; Mass officiated by Father Larry will begin at 10 a.m. gollowed by burial at the church cemetery. Casual attire is suggested.

Arrangements are being handled by Garden Island Mortuary, Ltd.

Hatsume Shimamoto

Hatsume Shimamoto of Kapa’a, died at Garden Isle Healthcare on Dec. 13, 2005 at the age of 89.

Born in Kapa’a, on July 26, 1916, she was a homemaker.

She is survived by two daughters, Alice (Herbert) Toyooka of Honolulu and Charlene Boiser of Kapa’a; eight grandchildren, Russell (Pamela) Toyooka, Craig (Leslie) Toyooka, Guy Toyooka, Vandalea (Jiro) Fay, Maile (Lance Katekaru) Horikawa, Howard (Jeannie) Sakahara Jr., Waianela (Jerry) Refamonte, Caroline (Buddy) Victorino; eight great-grandchildren; brother Sazuko Sakata; sister, Jeanette (George) Oishi; numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

Funeral service officiated by Rev. Akiya will begin at 10 a.m. on Friday, Dec. 23, at the Kapaa Jodo Mission. Casual attire is suggested and flowers omitted.
