Just last night The like in years past, the Hilo High School basketball team polished off all three KIF squads, with a complete sweep against Kaua’i, 64-55.
Raiderdome crowd got their first look at the 2005-06 Red Raider squad, which is comprised mostly of inexperienced young players.
Senior shooting guard Josh Bradbury, a key returnee from last season, led Kaua’i with 21 points.
Sophomore forward Basil Walton supplied 18 big points and played with the demeanor of a much more experienced player.
Once again, Hilo was paced by the sharp-shooting of Toby Misech, who had a game-high 24 points.
The Vikings jumped out to a 21-15 first quarter lead, but Kaua’i stormed back and trailed Hilo by only two points at the half (36-34).
The Red Raiders stayed with the Vikings and their relentless full-court press in the third quarter, but in the final frame, Hilo pulled away with the 64-55 victory.
On Tuesday night, Hilo upended Kapa’a, 83-58 and then on Wednesday, the Vikings edged the Menehune, 60-50.
KIF boys basketball begins its regular season on Tuesday, Jan. 3.
The Warriors host the Menehune, with the JV game tipping off at 5:30 p.m.
The varsity contest begins 20 minutes after the completion of the JV contest.
