Kupihea gets five years for assaulting a cop

Shayne Kupihea, 21, of Kapaa, was re-sentenced to five years in prison by Chief Judge George M. Masuoka for Assault Against a Law Enforcement Officer in the First Degree after being found in violation of the terms and conditions of his probation. Kupihea was originally sentenced to probation for the felony offense in April 2004.

Prosecutors filed a motion to revoke Kupihea’s probation on December 9, 2004 after Kupihea’s probation officer reported that Kupihea was terminated from an anger management treatment program for excessive absences, failed to follow through with a substance abuse evaluation, and failed to attend AA meetings, failed to notify his probation officer that he lost his job.

In May 2005 his probation officer also reported that Kupihea had failed to complete court ordered community service by the given deadline.

• Florentino Salvador, 47, of Kilauea, was sentenced by Judge Masuoka to a five year term of probation for Theft in the Second Degree and Promoting a Dangerous Drug in the Third Degree in two separate cases. Special conditions to Salvador’s probation include serving one year in jail and payment of court fees. Salvador entered his guilty pleas to the felony charges on November 22, 2005.

In the drug case, Salvador was arrested by police on February 6, 2005 after he left the Hanamaulu Shell Service Station without paying for $29.00 worth of gas. When he was arrested, the police found a black briefcase type bag in his possession and obtained Salvador’s permission to search the bag. Police recovered a glass smoking pipe that contained crystal methamphetamine residue.

In the theft case, Salvador was arrested by police on July 31, 2005 after Salvador tried to sell a house that he did not have a right to sell to two different people and accepted money from both parties as deposits on the sales.
