LIHU’E — A 24-year-old West-side resident pleaded not guilty to charges of possession of crystal methamphetamine, marijuana and drug paraphernalia.
A jury trial has been set for March 13 for Cheri Numazawa, who appeared before Fifth Circuit Court Judge Kathleen Watanabe last week to enter her plea to five drug-related charges.
Numazawa was arrested in Lihu’e on Jan. 6, according to the Kaua’i Police Department arrest log.
She was released after posting $4,050 bail.
Lawyers in the county Office of the Prosecuting Attorney filed the charges against Numazawa last month.
According to the three-page complaint, Numazawa faces two counts of possession of crystal methamphetamine, or ice, two counts of possession of drug paraphernalia, and one count of possession of marijuana, the result of a Dec. 10, 2004 arrest.
Each methamphetamine charge is a Class-C felony, and carries a maximum sentence of five years in prison and a fine of up to $10,000.

The marijuana charge is a petty misdemeanor, and carries a maximum of 30 days behind bars and a $1,000 fine.
