NAWILIWILI — Officials at Marriott International, represented by Hawaii Business Council Chairman Bill Countryman, presented representatives of the Kauai United Way a check for $1,500 Monday.
The amount represents Marriott corporate support for the 2005 Kaua‘i United Way campaign.
Marriott’s corporate contributions to United Way organizations are made on behalf of employees at all Marriott operations, including managed and franchised hotels, in contribution areas, a company spokesman said.
This corporate contribution is in addition to contributions already made by associates of the Kaua‘i Marriott Resort & Beach Club, Marriott’s Waiohai Beach Club, and Courtyard by Marriott Kaua‘i at Waipouli Beach.
Countryman said Marriott International associates and managers raise money for United Way, and they’ve decided that, rather than giving all the money to one United Way campaign, they would distribute the corporate money to representatives of United Way organizations in the different communities in which Marriott leaders do business.
Countryman already presented similar checks to the Maui United Way, and to the Aloha United Way on O‘ahu, he said.
